Pat O'Neil
Pat O'Neil
enters his 3rd year at the helm of the Bulldogs baseball program and 17th
overall as a high school baseball coach.
Coach O'Neil's trail to Brownsburg started in 1981
where he was an assistant for two years at South Bend St. Joe HS under the
leadership of his brother Chip, who is now Head Coach at S.B. Clay.
From there, O'Neil went to his alma mater LaPorte HS, coaching under the
legend Ken Schreiber. While at LaPorte, O'Neil led the JV to a
142-24 (86%) overall record from 1984-90, then assisting the Varsity
during during the state tourney and helping them reach the State Finals in
'86, '87, and '90 (winning '87 and '90).
In 1990, Coach O'Neil was hired at Fountain Central HS
as the Head Baseball Coach. The Mustangs were 79-52 under his
guidance while he sent six players onto college and one player drafted.
He was the founder and President of the Southeast Fountain Baseball League
comprising of teams from T-ball through Babe Ruth.
In late summer 1995, Coach O'Neil was hired by the new
major League expansion team, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays as an area scout.
His responsibilities were to scout and recommend players for the drafts
while covering Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and western Indiana
and Kentucky. Coach O'Neil left the scouting business in '98 and
returned to teaching an coaching at Covington HS.
Coach O'Neil and his wife of 22 years, Sue, are the
parents of Maureen (20) and Katie (16) and they reside in Brownsburg.
